SanDisk takes first place in India with 51 percent of the market in the flash memory segment

Since the Indian consumer storage flash memory market saw 33 percent growth in the third quarter of this year, SanDisk with a 51 percent market share ranked first as the preferred supplier followed by Strontium and Sony in terms of unit shipments.

SanDisk shipments experienced a 67 percent growth compared to the last quarter and was the main driver of growth for the pen drive category, according to a report by Cybermedia Research (CMR) on Tuesday. The market in general, consisting of Micro-SD cards, SD cards and flash memory units, witnessed a decrease of 29 percent (in the year-on-year comparison) in terms of units shipped.

">The Micro-SD card market will find additional life in the form of phones with 4G functions, as they have a limited built-in memory with the potential for data-intensive use, "Narinder Kumar, principal analyst at CyberMedia Research, said in a statement.

"The recent trend of mobile phones bundled at subsidized prices of telecom operators to counter RJIO's JioPhone in the entry-level mobile device segment will be further added to the base of Micro SD cards." Prices between normal pen drives and OTG pen drives will drive adoption of the latter, "added Kumar.

Also in the Micro SD segment, SanDisk remained the main contributor with a 38 percent market share and its shipments experienced an 81 percent growth compared to the previous quarter. Strontium maintained its second position and Samsung was in third place in terms of unit shipments. The shipments of unmarked Micro SD decreased by 18 percent compared to the last quarter. SanDisk also remained the largest contributor with 65 percent when it comes to flash drives too. Sony was in second place and Strontium captured the third place in terms of unit shipments.

Among the 10 best models of flash drives, 'Cruzer Blade (SDCZ50)' and 'Ultra Dual Drive (SDDD3)' from SanDisk were the most favored models. The USB 3.0 Flash Drives market witnessed an upward trend. Its market share grew from 10 percent in the second quarter to 17 percent in the third quarter. The report also noted that 16GB capacity flash drives were the main contributors, with a market share of 37 percent of the general flash device market.

According to Shipra Sinha, analyst at Consumer Storage Flash Memory Market, the availability of several applications to watch movies and other entertainment shows online and download videos will require additional internal memory.

"This will further boost the growth of the Micro-SD card market in the near future, and in the future, the market will witness a shift towards higher capacity segments because all major providers implement 3D flash technology in their process. manufacturing "
