Huawei Mate 40 Pro + retail package surfaces

The announcement of the Huawei Mate 40 series is scheduled for October 22, which is next week, and details remain strangely sparse. So far we know that the phones will work with an internal Kirin 9000 SoC that may have an integrated 5G modem, a chip that Huawei doesn't seem to have as many units of. The 66 W charging is also in the works, and it goes without saying that a competent camera system, arranged in a group of unusual shape in at least one of the models.

It's that camera setup we're looking at in more detail today, courtesy of a set of case renderings. Leaving no doubt about the exact shape this time, the images show an octagonal glass window, behind it, at least 5 cameras. The one that is most easily recognized is the tele periscope in the upper right position. Judging by the size of the lens, the one underneath should be the main camera, although with Huawei's history of large-sensor ultra-wide, it could be that too.

There are two more cameras left, and we wonder if one of them is a mid-range zoom to bridge the gap between the main shooter and the tele periscope, which in turn could be the 10x P40 Pro + zigzag unit or most likely the 'plain' 5x module of the P40 Pro. In any case, we're speculating that this is the full Pro + model rather than a more conventional Pro.

There is also a smaller module along the central axis of the phone, at the bottom of the octagon. That could be a macro camera or a depth sensor, or a ToF receiver module, that kind of depth module itself, of course.

From a different corner of the interwebs, we also get a couple of images of a retail box for the Mate 40 Pro +, at least this one explicitly says 'more'. It bears a model name NOP-AN00, supports 5G (duh), and comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. 'Ceramic black' is the color, it's written in Chinese, and this is pretty much all the useful information we can extract from the box.
