Corning has unveiled the next iteration of Gorilla Glass, tempered glass used in most devices with a touch screen. Called Gorilla Glass 5, the company says the new glass can withstand drops on rough surfaces up to four times better than competitive surfaces. He also adds that in laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass 5 survived up to 80 percent of the time when dropped down from a height of 1.6 meters over rough surfaces. Tempered glass is commercially available, and is expected to be included in the final products of this year.
