Are flash sales and pre-orders really help the customer? When Motorola Moto G opened to a great opening in India in the second month of 2014, the reserves ran out in a matter of minutes to midnight and the company had no idea how to cope with demand. The problem persisted with Flipkart web site, so it is an exclusive retailer for the model. Motorola later decided not to go for flash sales and sales based pre-order, either Moto Moto G or E. But Xiaomi changed the game.
When Xiaomi launched its phones in India via Flipkart as its exclusive distributor, decided to go with the model of flash sales.
The sale was open were accepted for a couple of hours and pre-orders until stocks lasted. Mi3 Redmi Xiaomi 1S and followed the same pattern but surprisingly got sold in seconds, once the pre-order window opened. That does not, however, satisfy all customers.
Many frustrated with the server crashes and the inability to place orders, chose a phone instead. When Xiaomi 1S Redmi stated that sold out in four seconds, many smelled a rat and thought it was a fraud. It helps if there is more transparency.
A similar sale was published by OnePlus One last week that lasted only an hour and again customers face problems with the server goes wrong and the impossibility of ordering correctly. The trend will change only if smartphone manufacturers realize their mistakes and focus on customer satisfaction in their own goals.
May the best way is how companies like Lava, Micromax, Asus, LG, Samsung and others opened pre-orders before the actual launch to estimate demand. This keeps the customer happy and the company is confident demand. As for flash sales, only if companies other smartphones secure the server issues and technology, can justify flash sales!
