Ericsson becomes the first to demonstrate 5G technology in India

With the aim of bringing the latest innovations and creating a 5G ecosystem in India, the world leader in communications technology, Ericsson, presented on Friday the first live 5G live demonstration in the country. The demonstration with Ericsson's 5G test bench and 5G New Radio (NR) delivered a performance of 5.7 Gbps and ultra-low latency of 3 milliseconds. According to a latest Ericsson study, 5G technology will allow a revenue potential of $ 27.3 billion for Indian telecom operators in 2026.

"We are strengthening our commitment to the Indian market by being pioneers in the first 5G live demonstration in the country." The showcase of 5G technology has been organized in the direction of creating a robust 5G ecosystem as the government plans to roll out the 5G network by 2020, "said Nunzio Mirtillo, Head of Market Area-SE Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson.

The demonstration also presented 5G use cases and live demonstration of essential technologies on the way to 5G such as Gigabit LTE (download speeds of 1 GBPS) with license assisted access technology (LAA). The LAA live demonstration highlighted how this technology can take advantage of wireless network resources using higher frequency bands in a small cell architecture. Other technological innovations presented in the sample included advances in Radio Network Evolution, 5G Ready Transport and Network Slicing. The new 5G platform from Ericsson includes the 5G core, radio and transport portfolios, with digital support systems, transformation and security services.

"5G will bring a new level of performance and features to telecommunication networks, enabling new services and creating new ecosystems, new sources of revenue will be opened for operators, 5G has the potential to allow an incremental revenue opportunity of 43 percent for Indian operators by 2026, "added Nitin Bansal, Executive Director of Ericsson India. The biggest 5G opportunity will be seen in sectors such as manufacturing, energy and services, followed by the public health and safety sectors. This will be higher than the revenue generated by traditional services, which is expected to grow up to $ 63 billion in 2026. According to Ericsson, agriculture will open revenue opportunities of up to $ 400 million for telecom operators.

The 5G application will be carried out in areas such as field monitoring and mapping, livestock routing and monitoring, field applications and related services. The retail sector in India will offer 5G-enabled potential revenues of up to $ 1.15 billion by the year 2026.
