BSNL, the state-owned telecommunications operator announced the new Chauka-444 plan to take on Reliance's aggressive data offerings. BSNL's Chauka-444 is a special promotional offer applicable only to its prepaid subscribers. Under Chauka-444, BSNL is offering 4GB of data per day for 90 days at a recharge of Rs 444.
The newly announced Chauka-444 is tracking the company's STV-339 plan that offers 3GB of data per day. Since the commercial availability of Reliance Jio in September last year, established telecoms operators have begun offering aggressive voice and data offerings.
Reliance jio currently offers 1 GB or 2 GB of data per day for its core members under the 'Dhan Dhanana Dhan' offer. The offer comes with a recharge of Rs 309 and Rs 509 respectively and has a validity of 84 days. The company also began offering 20 percent more data recently to those who buy Reliance Retail's LYF branded smartphones.
Not just BSNL, other telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea have also drastically reduced the prices of their existing plans. With most telecom operators, users now receive unlimited local and STD calls. Incoming roaming calls are now standard among most telecom operators. A TRAI report recently suggested that Jio added only 3.9 million subscribers in the month of April. The addition of the company's subscribers has been decreasing considerably in recent months.
