Sony sending out a new software update to its older Xperia Z-series devices

Sony has begun shipping a new software update for some of its biggest Xperia Z-series devices. The software in question is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the last stable version out of Google.

The devices for which the deployment has been initiated today are the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z in both Wi-Fi only and LTE enabled iterations.

Currently only certain variations of these models are getting the upgrade. For the Xperia Z we are talking about phones model number C6602 and C6603 and the C6503 and C6506 Xperia ZL units badged-C5503 Xperia ZR, the SGP311 and SGP312 Wi-Fi-only Tablet Z and SGP321 Tablet Z LTE.

Unfortunately it seems that the much discussed Stagefright exploit has not been fully patched in this release, so expect to see a new smaller update that comes in the future to deal with that. Regardless of which of the devices before installing the update mentioned above, after applying it will build number 10.7.A.0.222.
