Marking its foray into the smartphone market in India booming Chinese mobile phone maker said Zopo today it expects to sell one million devices in the following year. The company, which has a presence in 135 countries, today launched its flagship 4G LTE device 'Speed 7' priced at Rs 12,999 in India in collaboration with e-commerce player SnapDeal.
"India is a market with huge potential. It is the smartphone market fastest growing in the world and following the success in Europe and other Asian countries, it was a logical step to come," Manager mobile Zopo General Kevin Xu told PTI.
He said the company aims to sell about one lakh units per month and more than one million devices in the next 12 months. "We see great potential in the Indian market. While Spain is our largest currently on the market the next 1-2 years, we expect India to account for over 50 percent of our sales," he said. The company sells about 500,000 units per month worldwide. Shipping Smartphone in India grew 44 percent to 26.5 million units in the April-June quarter, according to research firm IDC.
In addition, it is expected that the market will continue to grow by double digits in the coming years, surpassing the US as the largest in the world smartphone second, as people switch to smartphones and improve gradually 4G enabled phones. Samsung maintains its leadership in the smartphone market in India with 23 percent share, followed by Micromax (17 percent), Intex (11 percent), lava (7 percent) and Lenovo (6 percent ).
Xu said the company will focus on smartphones midrange and premium in India. "In two months, we are going to launch our second device, priced between Rs 13,000-15,000 ... We can also look at launching a SmartWatch in India," he added. Zopo has formed a marketing, distribution and service center with Adcom alliance headquarters in the city. Adcom feature phones sold in India under the same brand. "We have a manufacturing plant of feature phones. After we reach a certain sales volume Zopo, we will start manufacturing smartphones in India also ZOPO ... The timeline we see is the next year" said founder and president Sanjeev Bhatia Adcom.
He added that Zopo be available for service through 200 service centers. 'Speed 7' has Android 5.1 operating system, 3GB of RAM, frameless screen 5 inches, 13.2 MP rear and front 5-megapixel camera and 2500 mAh battery.
