Xiaomi Redmi 2 review

Xiaomi has had a great run since its launch in India in June. While your entry level Redmi 1S was well received in India, which was discontinued late last year to help focus on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G. The Redmi Note 3G was arrested to be sold in India after Ericsson filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Xiaomi. So from the beginning of this year, the cheapest phone Xiaomi has been the Redmi Note 4G Rs 9999. Whereas Lenovo already announced the A6000 at CES (and released in India in February) and Moto E (2015) was published early last month, it was a matter of time before we saw Xiaomi Redmi 2.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is a upgrage to Redmi H1 last year and in terms of appearance has not changed much. For all practical purposes, the Redmi 2 resembles a younger brother of Note Redmi 4G. Xiaomi has employed a plastic mat back into the Redmi 2. The back cover is flimsy plastic but is comparatively stronger than that seen in the A6000 Lenovo. The back cover opens to reveal the section of the removable battery and dual SIM slot card along with a microSD card slot.

On the right side, you have a volume control and start / standby while the left side edge is clean. You also have the audio jack 3.5 mm and the base has the microUSB charging and data transfer port.

The first face is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection and has capacitive touch red buttons at the base of the Redmi 2. bezels certainly could have been thinner. It is not the speaker audio section at the top with which you have the proximity sensor and 2MP front camera. In the back there is an 8MP camera with LED flash drive on the left speaker and a section on the right side. It measures 9.4 mm thick and weighs about 133g. Build quality is generally pretty good and the matte finish back cover gives a good grip.

features

Xiaomi Redmi 2 features a slight upgrade from its predecessor. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC 410 that has a quad-core 1.2GHz processor with Adreno A53 cortex 306GPU.

This is combined with 1 GB of RAM and has 8 GB of internal storage. Xiaomi plans to launch an internal memory of 16 GB and 2 GB of RAM variant of Redmi 2 later this year. It sports a high definition display 4.7 inch Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.

The Redmi 2 comes with a configuration with dual SIM dual standby 4G SIM. This gives you an advantage over Lenovo A6000 where you can only use one at a time 4G SIM. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v4.0 LE and GPS with A-GPS / GLONASS and Beidou. The sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and compass are also present on board.

An 8MP camera is present on the back, along with a 2MP front camera. The chamber says it has a pixel size 1.4micrometer. Let's see if that helps with the image quality in camera section below. The phone has a battery of 2,200mAh Li-Polymer, it is removable. Sensors such as an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and the compass are present in the Redmi 2.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 launched with the top of MIUI Android OS 6 OS 4.4.4 KitKat. However, this skin is the latest update of Xiaomi and brings a lot of changes in the design with some experience also improved. But for anyone familiar with the design philosophy of iOS, skin MIUI 6 seems to have taken a lot of "inspiration".

The overall look of MIUI 6 has not changed drastically, but Xiaomi has perfected the design of applications made simpler and flatter applications. For example, music and video applications are carefully divided into local sections and cloud; clock application has a new design that divides again into alarm, stopwatch, timer and clock; weather app has a beautiful display of data; Safety Application perfectly divided into different sections such as cleaning, data usage, blocklist and so on. There is a nice button activation to change a setting on or off.

In terms of features, Xiaomi has added some nice touches. Now receives floating notifications to not be interrupted (to make that decisive photograph or while playing your favorite game) when you receive a message or call, as it is displayed as a notification floating on top. Even with notifications, MIUI 6 The divided into important and unimportant notifications.

Notifications are displayed on the lock screen, and when the notification tray is pulled down. The notification tray when pulled down two pages are displayed - one that shows the quick setup menu and the other page that displays notifications neglected. The display quick notifications with transparent background backdrop looks inspired by iOS pull up the control center. Instead of getting a notification icon on the application, you can now get three points that is common for all notifications unimportant. You can control which notifications should appear as important to enter Settings> Notifications> Manage notifications.

The mail application has also been redesigned. One of the key features include designing threaded email conversations, which actually appears as chat messages. Other proprietary applications include My Account, Security Issues, music and so on.

MIUI 6 lets you easily switch between applications screens. Actually you can hold on an application by a finger while swiping the screen on the other finger. It adds widgets, change transition effects and so on. The camera application has also undergone a redesign, but let's take a look at it under the section of the chamber. The browser also has a new look.

Performance

The Redmi 2 comes with six skin MIUI Android 4.4.4 above, operating system, but I did not see any lag / stuttering while the phone is used. Switching between apps, swipe, and scroll operations are smooth. With image heavy sites, there will be a slight stutter that the image is loading. Call quality is good and the earpiece speaker is loud enough.

Since it is the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC 410, its immediate competitors include Lenovo and Huawei Honor A6000 4X. The benchmark results are on par with Lenovo A6000 and Honor 4X balanced and slightly higher in the Performance mode.

The sound quality is good and you can easily listen to audio section speaker in your living room. Play on your phone is fun and just had stuttering while playing games like Fruit Ninja, Riptide GP2 and sets high, such as Frontline Commando 2 and Asphalt 8 also range. The phone is not hot at the rear, while you are playing games.

Display

Following a 4.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of high definition, a 312PPI high pixel density is obtained. Text appears sharp and even at a close distance did not notice any pixelation. The colors are vibrant, but there is a warm undertone in Redmi 2. The auto-brightness feature works well when outdoors. Great viewing angles are given and only the reflective surface is a distraction when viewed from angles. While watching movies, dark scenes make the reflective surface of the screen quite evident, as it acts as a mirror below. Bright scenes not post any problem.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with 8 megapixel rear camera and 2MP front camera, rear camera with sensor has a pixel size of 1.4 microns. Having seen a lot of entry level phones with high megapixel count, not really expecting much from the camera Redmi 2. But is decent enough for an entry level phone. Comes with the same minimal user interface that was there in the My 4. Swiping right brings up the various filters and slide left vomits options such as Panorama mode, HDR mode, manual mode and so on.

Autofocus speed is not the fastest, but the option to manipulate the exhibition at the touch within and surrounding the slider around the circle of approach is very useful. Light shooting are detailed, although there is a slight hot dye for photographs. The edge sharpness was better than that observed in the A6000 Huawei Honor 4X and Lenovo. Indoor shots had better control over noise compared to the competition.

Shooting in low light is where the camera performance begins to suffer. Although the images are certainly useful if you are only sharing online, you realize dithering around the edges when shooting in low light. You will notice a slight barrel distortion in images, but chromatic aberration is well controlled. In general, competitors such as the Lenovo A6000, Huawei Honor 4X and Moto E, Redmi 2 definitely has an advantage when it comes to image quality and camera performance.

Battery life

Battery capacity has been bumped up to 2,000mAh in Redmi 1S to 2,200mAh in Redmi 2. In the test loop 8 hours including two hours each calling, video streaming, video playback and audio simulating a working day of eight hours, the Redmi two stayed with the battery remaining 33 per cent in Performance mode. This means that the phone easily which will last a day in regular use and maybe even more. In the balanced mode, you can extract even more life out of your phone.

Judgement and Price in India

Xiaomi significant improvement Redmi 2 over its predecessor is the addition of the two SIM slots 4G, higher capacity battery and a new user interface. While this may make sense for someone living in a city that is blessed with a 4G connectivity for most buyers 4G is not a purchase decision as important now as many parts of India are yet to Directions 4G networks. Current users of Redmi 1S have no need to upgrade to the Redmi 2 to veto 4G not much has changed.

The Redmi 2 is priced at Rs 6999, which competes with the Lenovo A6000 (which also offers 4G connectivity) and the Motorola Moto E. Redmi 2 definitely has an advantage over other competitors and is definitely a good choice for buyers first time. The only problem is the flash sales model that can put many potential customers who prefer the convenient option of going to the Android 5.0 Motorcycle sport E. Xiaomi had recently announced that it will start selling the phone offline in certain metropolitan areas, but the Redmi 2 is not on the list of phones to be sold in the first wave.

Ultimately, it comes down to your needs. If you want to secure the future of your investment, then it is a battle between the Lenovo A6000 and Xiaomi Redmi 2. If the latest Android updates are what you are looking for, then the Motorola Moto E is the one for you, despite reading about their defects before putting your money into it. Hopefully, A6000 and Redmi 2 should also receive the update to Android 5.0, but with no word on why the Moto E certainly has the advantage of being first in that department. Not to mention the battery life of Moto E is better than both Redmi 2 and A6000.
