Apple is not able to launch its new SmartWatch in Switzerland at least until later this year beause an issue of intellectual property rights, the Swiss broadcaster RTS on its website.
The US technology giant can not use the image of an apple, or the word "apple" to launch your watch in Switzerland, the home of luxury watches, because a patent 1985, RTS, citing a document from the Swiss Federal Institute Intellectual Property Ownership.
The document, reproduced on the website of RTS, was published by the business magazine Montres and Joaillerie, RTS said.
The patent is set to end on 05 December this year. Currently owned by William Longe, who owns Leonard brand watches that first introduced the patent.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for Reuters for comment. The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property could not be reached immediately outside normal working hours.
The Apple Watch, first new device the company since Tim Cook, who was CEO, will be available in stores in nine countries on 24 April.
The world's largest watchmaker Swatch submitted its reply to SmartWatch Apple last month, announcing a plan to put cheap watches programmable chips that will allow China to Chicago carriers make payments a flick of the wrist.
