The long rumored Jio function phone with 4G VoLTE support can be revealed at a price of Rs. 500 on July 21, the day Reliance Industries Limited celebrates its Annual General Meeting. A research note by HSBC analyst Rajiv Sharma reportedly says that the feature phone will have a price as low as Rs. 500. The move could help Reliance Jio convince users of 2G-enabled phones in other networks to switch to their 4G network, with a new aggressive price Jio plan that is also said to be on the cards to further sweeten the treatment.
According to an Economic Times report, the HSBC research note says that the Jio 4G VoLTE phone feature will be subsidized for as much as $ 10-15 (approximately Rs. 650-970) in order to achieve the Rs price. 500. It is said that the company has placed an order of 18-20 million units for phones with Chinese vendors such as Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Crave and megaphone. Shipments will begin in late July or early August.
According to previous leaks, the Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE phone will be available in two variants: one with a Qualcomm processor and the other with a Spreadtrum chip. In terms of specifications, the Jio 4G phone is said to have a 2.4-inch display, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, support for microSD cards, 2-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, Wi- Fi, GPS and NFC.
With VoLTE 4G support, buyers will be able to access digital content on the complimentary phone courtesy feature of the free subscription to Jio applications. In fact, the filtered photos on the device show dedicated hardware buttons on the front for MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema and JioMusic applications. Voice calls and SMS are also expected to be free with the device.
