A port is a point where communication between the computer and external devices occurs. The female end of the connector is the port normally found on the motherboard.
These ports help the signals travel from the system to the external device and allow them to work properly. Mainly, the ports are divided into serial and parallel ports otherwise called the male and female port. Today we are going to see some of the important ports and their functionalities.
- USB
USB This is the port commonly used in variety of devices, including a computer, smart phones, TV and more. It is used to connect external devices and may be available on both sides of the back / front of the computer. It is used to transfer data more quickly from one point to another. There are different types of USB available, including original USB, basic USB trident, Super Speed USB and USB 3.0. Among these, USB 3.0 is the latest and fastest.

HDMI a.k.a High definition multimedia interface was recently introduced on the computer, laptops and televisions. This helps connect High Definition and High Definition devices such as game consoles, Blu-Ray players and more. It is used to carry uncompressed video and compressed or uncompressed audio signals.
- AUDIO 3.5mm
These are used to connect other audio output devices with the computer. The connector for the audio port differs depending on the type of audio that is analog or digital and depending on the port. A 3.5mm port is commonly used the audio port to connect stereo headphones or surround channels. On the other hand, a 6-connector port is available in most of the computer to connect various audio devices including microphones.

This is the latest USB and is a reversible connector. Type USB - C is type A and B replacement and is expected to be future proof as well. Everyone is using this port on devices like laptops, smartphones and more. This port can handle high current, which is used in fast charging technology, which allows you to charge quickly in less time.
- ETHERNET PORT
This is the port that helps the user to connect to the network than other ports. It looks like the phone jack and helps in the internet connection system. The latest technology is called Gigabit Ethernet and supports a data transfer rate of more than 10Gigabits per second.
